WHAT IS CHANGE?

The thought of any kind of change can be quite scary.  Sometimes other people tell someone that they need to change something within their life.  This can bring up all sorts of feelings, from resentment to self-doubt.

When someone makes the decision to change a part of their life, whether it be a relationship, habit, job or to move area, there are many considerations they will need to take into account.


HOW CAN COUNSELLING HELP WITH CHANGE?

Counselling can give you the opportunity to talk about the area of their life you would like to change, to look at what you think is wrong with the way things are and what you think they will accomplish by changing. 

Counselling can also give you the opportunity to explore the emotions behind the desire to change, both in terms of the current situation and how the change will affect them.

When working with someone who wants to 'change' I will begin by helping them to understand what the change will involve, both in terms of what they will need to do in order to change and what the reason for the desire to change is. 

While exploring the desire to change it may become apparent that what needs to change is the individual's behaviour, not the situation they are in.

If the individual decides they want to make the changes I am able to help them to plan and implement these changes in a way that will be positive and lasting.
